VLADIVOSTOK, RUSSIA - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has instructed police to investigate the explosion which injured and caused five victims to be in critical condition in Depok, West Java (near Jakarta) on Saturday night (Sept. 8)
The president who is in Russia to attend the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting said on Sunday he had received a report about the explosion from Chief Political, Legal and Security Minister Djoko Suyanto.
"The president has received a report from the chief security minister and has instructed the police chief to investigate and arrest the perpetrators," Presidential Spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said here on Sunday.
He said that the president asked the police chief to carry out investigation soon to reveal the cause and the motive of the explosion. "The head of state immediately ordered police to examine the cause of the blast and to hunt the perpetrators," Julian said.
Five persons were injured in an explosion suspected to be a bomb blast that occurred in a house in Depok at about 9.50 pm Western Indonesia Standard Time (WIB) Saturday. Police arrested five persons relating to the explosion. Depok police precinct chief Senior Commissioner Mulyadi Kaharni confirmed the arrest of the five persons, but refused to give futher details.
ANTARA News learned Saturday night that of the five victims, one was in critical condition, three sustained serious injuries and two suffered from minor ones. They were rushed to the Mitra Keluarga and Bhakti Yudha hospitals for treatment. The explosion also caused serious damage to a house which was located in Jalan Nusantara, RT04 RW13 Beji, Depok.
Police have put police lines around the house. Meanwhile, a Gegana bomb-defusing team from the police headquarters examined the explosion. Mulyadi Kaharni refused to speculate that the explosion was related to Wednesday`s arrest of terrorist suspect Firman.
He even refused to confirm that the explosion was a bomb blast that left five people seriously injured with two others having minor injuries. Currently police are investigating the incident. Police`s anti-terror unit, Densus 88, arrested Firman in Depok, on charge of involvement in the recent terrorist attacks on police posts in Solo, Central Java.
Firman`s accomplices Farhan and Mukhsin were killed later in a shootout with Densus 88 and Bayu was arrested in Karanganyar, Central Java.
