BOGOR, WEST JAVA - The Sukhoi Superjet-100 airliner crashed in a location 1,500 meters deep in Mount Salak. "The debris of the ill-fated plane are scattered at the site at a depth of 1,500 meters," Suryakancana Military Area Commander Col AM Putranto said as OSC chief in the evacuation of Sukhoi at the Command Post in Cipelang, here, Tuesday.
Putranton said to reach the location of the evacuation, SAR personnel had to use increasingly longer ropes.The difficult terrain made it difficult for the SAR team to continue doing its job. Deputy Head of the National SAR Agency (Basarnas) Ketut Parwa said the evacuation is still being continued until all the victims and most important materials of the plane had been removed and evacuated. "Today another two body bags will be evacuated and flown to Halim," he said.
Ketut said until today 26 body bags including those containing materials of the plane had already been evacuated. Ketut said 70 percent of the evacuation process had been completed. As the point where the plane crashed had been found, and the team started focusing on the evacuation efforts.
Ketut added that the existing number of personnel on the seventh day of the search will not be increased. The 565-member team will be rolled each day with personnel from the command post. The SAR team to be involved in the operation will consist of 2.141 members.
"There will be no addition of personnel, we are only rotating them," he said. In the meantime, members of the Russian team may have arrived at the crash site, but they are only retrieving materials including the black box.
