JAKARTA - The Jakarta Police Department, Polda Metro Jaya, said that they are on standby for the anticipated anti-fuel price hike rallies in the capital until April 5."After April 5, the Jakarta police will end its duty of guarding the fuel hike rallies," said the Jakarta Police`s spokesperson Rikwanto here on Wednesday.
Rikwanto said that the Jakarta police have alerted 22,000 police officers, including 8,000 Indonesian Military soldiers, to ensure the safety of protests in Jakarta. Besides, the Jakarta police will also secure a number of fuel stations and the fuel carrier distribution trucks across the city, in case of any hijacking by the protesters.
Indonesian military personnel have been assigned to secure several vital objects in Jakarta such as the airport, harbor, the presidential palace, House of Representatives and the state`s oil company`s fuel depot. Rikwanto noted that the military officers would directly deal with the protesters, and they are prepared to secure the city`s vital objects.
As informed earlier, certain groups of workers and students plan to conduct another rally on March 29 to reject the fuel price hike plan. The rally sites in Jakarta include the House of Representatives /People`s Consultative Assembly, the Presidential Palace and the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout.
