JAKARTA - Jakarta police have confiscated 350,000 ecstasy pills from the Netherlands, allegedly from members of a big syndicate known as BS and SA. "The suspects obtained the ecstasy pills from IW from the Netherlands who has now been put on the wanted list," Jakarta Metropolitan Police spokesman Senior Commissioner Rikwanto said here on Tuesday.
He noted that the Jakarta Metropolitan Police have arrested one of the biggest narcotics dealers in Indonesia with an international network. The chief of the Sub-Directorate II of the Directorate of Narcotics of the police command, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Eko Saputro said the illegal ecstasy pills were smuggled into the country by sea.
"The two suspects had planned to distribute the pills by land to several big cities in Indonesia," he said. Eko said the police initially caught BS alias RTJ alias DS alias AR alias B, and SA alias Al alias TN with 280,000 ecstasy pills in Pluit, North Jakarta, on March 1.
The police then further investigated the case by searching BS`s house and later found 41,000 more ecstasy pills and 200 grams of methamphetamine in Cibubur, East Jakarta. From their search at SA`s home in Tamansari, West Jakarta, the police discovered 91,000 ecstasy pills.
The two suspects received the pills from IW alias Bahari alias Boncel registered as a Dutch citizen from Indonesia. Eko said IW is a suspect that has been wanted in connection with illegal possession of 600,000 ecstasy pills in 2008.
Meanwhile, the Jakarta Metropolitan police also arrested a Chinese citizen, known by her initials LJ, for keeping 150 grams of methamphetamine and 100 grams of ketamine at the Apartment Mediterania in Gajah Mada, West Jakarta, at the end of February.
The suspect confessed that she obtained the drug from a prisoner at the Cipinang Penitentiary in East Jakarta. "She admitted to distributing the methamphetamine to entertainment centers in West Jakarta and North Jakarta," Eko said.
The police also arrested IF, believed to be a narcotic drugs courier, and IS at the rented house Number 14, Room Number 101 on Jalan Kuantan RT 08/03 in Cideng, Central Jakarta, on March 8.
