JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysic Agency (BMKG) has predicted that the dry season in Indonesia will begin in 342 season zones in May 2012.
According to Head of BMKG Sri Woro B Harjono, speaking in Jakarta on Friday, there will be a surplus of water, but less in east Indonesia, while the Dipole Mode, an irregular change in sea-surface temperatures in which the western Indian Ocean becomes alternately warmer and then colder than the eastern part of the ocean, is normal and the temperature of the Central Pacific Ocean sea surface will be cold from March to May.
According to the prediction, the dry season in June will occur in 83 season zones, though it had already occurred in 4 zones by early February and will be occurring earlier in one zone in March and 79 zones in April.
The analysis and prediction, based upon atmospheric and sea movements, indicated La Nina waves in the Central Pacific Equator will continue until the middle of the year. "Those indicate that the Dry Season in Indonesia will occur at its normal time," said Harjono.
The regions that would have earlier dry seasons in February were northern and eastern Aceh, northern and middle Sungai Penuh City and Kerinci, and the dry season will be seen in many of the regions in Sumatera Island in May, June and July.
Meanwhile, the dry season on Java Island will last from April to June, and on Bali Island and Nusa Tenggara from March until May. The dry season will occur on Kalimantan Island from May to July, Sulawesi Island from April to October, and Maluku and Papua Island from May to September.
