Pondok Pesantren Laki-laki As-Sodomiyah LIPPO CIKARANG - Last week it made some headlines, but I didn't have the time to get back to it right away. Well, that should be special new then, right? Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be that special. Hardly any attention was given to it in Indonesia, at least not of the stone-throwing and firebombing kind of attention that we should expect with this kind of news.

As the title might suggest, though it can be quire 'camouflaged' for outsiders, the news was related to sexual abuse on a pesantren, that is an islamic boarding school In this case a boarding school for young men and boys only. You can compare it with the Catholic church, but then Indonesian style.

Just like in peaceful Europe with it's Catholic church it's normal that you abuse boys and young men as well when you are having an important religious function. At least it seems like that. This example is about a ustad (religious teacher) that forced 29 of his pupils to have sex with him in one way or another. They were simply raped indeed.

It took a while before the first boy opened his mouth and spoke the truth and then went to the police with it. After that more stories started to trickle in and soon it was almost certain that at least 29 adults and minors were sexually abused by a religious pervert.

From statements made by several of the victims, it shows that the ustad ordered his pupils to have oral sex with him as well as some anal satisfaction. When the male pupils refused, they were told that it was good for them to do, because it would improve their health and they would benefit from it at a later age as well.

As it seems, the problems here are no different than with the Catholic church; an important religious figure forces others to do what this person wants. Nothing less and nothing more than that. It has very little to do with religion, it is only shocking to see that there is not much of a serious reaction from the community here.

Normally one would expect an explosion of anger, burning buildings and perpetrayors getting killed. It can not be justified, but it happens in the country where the Dutch word 'mataklap' came from. It is also nothing new that pesantren are attacked by residents, but then it is about more serious things than sexual abuse of minors?

Well, it might just be my wrong thoughts, but if they are to destroy anything, it is something like this. You don't tell me that there was not a single person in close relation to this boarding school that did not know anything. Where there is smoke there is fire.

As long as huge sums of oil-dollars are sent to Indonesia to build and maintain this kind of institutions, they should be regarded as being 'foreign', which would put them under strict supervision from several agencies and departments here, since foreigners are still not very loved by the government. Communism hasn't completely gone here for what that is concerned.
