JAYAPURA, PAPUA - The management of the US-based copper and gold mining firm PT Freeport Indonesia in Mimika, Papua, has continued to improve its shortcomings it has felt so far, a Freeport executive said.
Freeport Head for Jayapura Frans Maniagasi when he closed a photo contest organized by Freeport in cooperation with Jayapura's journalist community here on Sunday said that Freeport had faced complicated problems of late.
One of the problems which had not yet fully been overcome up to now is the strike staged by its employees and a series of shooting incidents by a unanimous group that took place within the company's areas.
"The problems taking place within Freeport are a challenge that has to be solved for the company's better future. We are learning many lessons from the problems and continue to improve ourselves," Frans Maniagasi said.
He said that in making improvements, his side would listen to advices and inputs from many sides in society, including journalists.
On the occasion Frans who often wrote opinion articles in a number of regional and national newspapers, said that his company hoped all sides in Papua and Indonesia would continue to provide inputs and would not be reluctant to criticize Freeport.
