JAKARTA - ASEAN communication and information technology ministers are discussing a free-of-charge roaming policy in the region to facilitate voice-based and satellite-based communications. The policy will extend connectivity services in the region.
"Ministers have agreed in terms of principle. We are now discussing the technical terms, particularly regarding the operators,” Communication and Information Technology Minister Tifatul Sembiring said in Bali as quoted by tribunnews.com.
"The point is ASEAN citizens won’t have to pay roaming fees when making phone calls in ASEAN countries,” he added. He said that the policy would also benefit business people in the region due to cheaper communication expenses.
