JAKARTA - Indonesian police are checking information that an alleged Al Qaeda member killed in an artillery attack in South Yemen is an Indonesian, a spokesman said. "This morning I checked it but I have received no response yet," the head of the National Police`s public relations bureau Inspector General Saud Usman Nasution said here on Wednesday.
He said the national police had been seeking further information through their anti-terror unit Densus 88, the Foreign Affairs Ministry and Interpol but so far there had been no confirmation about it. He said the police were still waiting for confirmation of the information that an Indonesian citizen was actively involved in the Al Qaeda network in Yemen.
An official in Yemen had previously said five alleged members of Al Qaeda had been killed in an artillery attack in South Yemen on Tuesday and one of them was Indonesian. "Two armed Al Qaeda members were killed in the artillery attack by the military in Zinjibar," an official near the city where the bodies had been taken told AFP.
The official knew one of them was an Indonesian citizen while the other one was a Yemeni. Three others had been killed in the attack by the 25th Mechandised Brigade headquartered in Zinjibar.
