JAKARTA - The dry season is expected to extend its stay in western Indonesia until October, given the current low temperatures across the Java Sea, a scientist says.
"The temperature in the Java Sea is relatively normal, and even low at present. This condition reduces the likelihood of rainfall in western Indonesia," said Akhmad Faqih, the director for climate modeling at the Center for Climate Change Risk and Opportunity Management in Southeast Asia and the Pacific.
"Some regions in western Indonesia are experiencing rare rainfalls and even droughts, including Nusa Tenggara, Java and Sumatra," Akhmad said in Bogor on Wednesday as quoted by Antara state news wire. He added that low rainfalls had been recorded throughout August and September, but the wet season should have already begun in September.
"Throughout September this year, we have had barely any rain," said Akhmad, also a lecturer at Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB)’s School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

Just now, in the late afternoon, I can see typical rainclouds south of me here in Lippo Cikarang. A search on twitter shows that it is raining heavily in Bandung and parts of southern Jakarta. And here? It has been hot as hell for the last two weeks, a sign that the wet season is about to arrive.. but not quite yet has arrived. *sigh*
