JAKARTA - National Police chief Gen. Timur Pradopo on Thursday confirmed that Umar Patek, wanted for his alleged role in the 2002 Bali bombing, had arrived in Jakarta on Thursday morning to face legal process. "Patek arrived at seven o’clock this morning in Jakarta," Pradopo said before the Cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace.
He said Patek was currently being held at the Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) Kelapa Dua detention center in East Jakarta. Patek is suspected of having played roles in suicide bombings in Bali that killed 202 people, most of them Australian. Patek is said to have fled Indonesia in 2003, but was captured by Pakistani security authorities in Pakistan in January.
