Warning for Lion Air, Batavia Air over delays JAKARTA - Bisnis Indonesia reveals that the Indonesian Department of Civil Aviation has published on-time performance figures for Indonesian air carriers with Batavia Air and Lion Air earning "red card" results for managing to fly on schedule less than 70% of the time.

Meanwhile, Garuda is providing the best on-schedule service, keeping to their timetable 86.98% of the time.

The results for on-time performance as compiled by the Indonesian Director General of Civil Aviation for the period January - April 2011:

            Airline                                         On Time Performance (%)
• Garuda Indonesia                                             86.98
• Merpati Nusantara                                            75.60
• Sriwijaya Air                                                        74.90
• AirAsia                                                                 71.96
• Batavia Air                                                           68.83
• Lion Air                                                                66.45

The government views a 70% on time performance rating as the minimum standard of passenger service that must be maintained by an airline. As a result, the government has put both Batavia Air and Lion Air on warning and is monitoring them closely for improvement in services.

The Indonesia government grants 'special commendations' for airlines operating on time above 90% of the time, an acceptable  'green' rating for airlines operating to schedule between 80-90% of the time, 'yellow' for companies with ratings between 70-80% and sub-standard 'red' ratings for airlines falling below the 70% mark.

Both airlines have been cautioned to stop over-scheduling their fleet of aircraft, hire sufficient crew to support aircraft utilization rostering and ensure that reserve passenger capacity is on standby to prevent schedule collapse.

In response to warnings from the government, Lion Air has recently hired 100 new crew, including foreign pilots, to approach the recommended crew to aircraft staffing ratio of 3.5:1.

Meanwhile, Batavia Air has issued assurances that maintenance on their fleet will be improved to help maintain schedule services and additional crew have been sourced.

Strange, then I'll probably stay in a different Indonesia then intended overhere. And fly with another Garuda, Merpati, Lion and Batavia than the ones mentioned.
The discussion about Garuda being on time has been previously conducted. (Domestic airports are forced to give priority to Garuda when it concerns the flying schedule.) Ofcourse on paper Garuda and Merpati are the "winners", because they're the state companies. Again another one of those childish tactics and lies of the government. The Indonesian government is regarding her people really as stupid and ignorant.
Ridiculous. Every idiot who's flying in Indonesia knows that Merpati is the winner when it comes to delays.
I'm flying almost every week here in Indonesia and my experience is that Garuda and Lion Air are reasonably on time. Batavia less but Merpati is a flying disaster.

Not a single government body warns about the many cancellations and idiotic reschedules for Merpati indeed. Isn't that even worse than flying late? Painfull to see the protection of government-owned companies.

Well, the worst thing is that the government has a complete underestimation of the intelligence of its own people. It is an insult to their own people, this kind of ridiculous manipulations.

Surprising that for Indonesians - normally oversensitive concerning offending - this kind of nonsense is not perceived as an insult.

it's not a direct insult, so in that case it's no problem. Delays are caused by Merpati, or another airline, not the government that now warns for it. (partially).

Well, I would consider it a direct insult to my intelligence, all these extremely transparent deceptions.

Me too, but unfortunately the majority of people here are just like the Dutch: complaining all the time, but taking action? That's too scary!
