JAKARTA - On Monday, the airport police at Soekarno Hatta International Airport in Cengkareng, Banten, arrested three Korean nationals who were carrying bomb replicas. The officers also confiscated what seemed to be detonators, cables and explosive materials packed into a special bag.
Angkasa Pura II operational and technical director Salahudin Rafi said the three suspects (two men and a woman) were apprehended at the luggage scanning post at the departure Terminal 1B at 5.30 a.m. The three were headed to Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, using Lion Air flight JT-760, which was scheduled to depart at 06.15 a.m.
"The three people said the objects were not real bombs but models to be used in a presentation for a mining company in Balikpapan," Salahudin said. He added that the three had said they came to Indonesia on an invitation from a company. "However, they were unable to show necessary documents,” Salahudin said as quoted by kompas.com.
Airport Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Reynhard Silitonga confirmed that the items were not bombs. "After conducting an investigation we discovered that the items were equipment brought from their office in Korea," he said.
