BOGOR - Indonesia's central bank, Bank Indonesia, on Thursday forecast that the country's economic growth will reach 6.6 percent this year.
Perry Warjiyo, Bank Indonesia Director for Research and Monetary Policy Affairs, told the Antara news agency that during the year's third quarter, Indonesia would have a 6.6 economic growth rate, largely fueled by the country's constantly growing consumption and investment figures, as well as an overall solid export performance.
In addition, Warjiyo said the numbers could be followed by a 6.7 rate in the fourth quarter, totaling the year to 6.6 percent. Meanwhile, foreign investment is estimated to reach $16.7 billion this year, almost $4 billion more than the previous year's figures, according to Bank Indonesia deputy governor, Budi Mulia.
Indonesia's economy was previously projected to grow between 6.1 to 6.6 percent, said Bank Indonesia Governor Darmin Nasution, stating that currently, it might grow between 6.4 to 6.8 percent, which is closer to 2012's forecast that had its projected rate between 6.4 to 6.9 percent.
Nasution also said the country's main economy sectors in the future would be led by transportation and communication, trade, hotel and restaurant, and industry.
