DENPASAR - The Ministry for State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) is targeting the commencement of construction of the Serangan - Tanjung Benoa Toll way for April 2011, projecting that the road can be completed in only seven months if the project is not delayed by land acquisition issues.
According to Bisnis.com, the deputy in charge of infrastructure and logistics at BUMN, Sumaryanto Widayatin, said this target was based on the recommendations of the Ministry and an investment plan from the consortium of five State-owned companies who are funding the project: PT Jasa Marga, PT Pelindo III, PT Angkasa Pura I and PT Bali Tourism Development Corporation (BTDC).
Officials are optimistic that the 11.5 kilometer long toll way can be completed in seven months based on past experience demanding rapid completion of major roadways, providing, of course, that no property acquisition problems impede the construction process.
Sumayano expects a formal announcement on the Serangan-Tangung Benoa Toll Way will be made before the middle of March so the formal bidding project for investors can immediately commence. Officials are confident that the consortium will win the tender process, if one is in fact held, given the lack of interest to date from any private investors in the Bali toll way.
The new toll way will cut through two kilometers of mangrove forest, follow the beach front for 2.3 kilometers and run across Serangan island for a distance of 2.3 kilometers. The bridge that forms a part of the toll way spanning the entrance to the Benoa port will be 350 meters long at a height above the sea of 35 meters and a maximum span height of 45.9 meters.
