JAKARTA - Indonesia's former National Police chief of detectives is now facing a 7-year prison term for accusations of accepting a Rp 500-million (40,000 euro) bribe and embezzlement charges regarding security funds, the Jakarta Globe reported Monday.
Commander General Susno Duadji - while serving as the national detectives chief - has been accused of taking the large bribe from convicted broker Sjahril Djohan who had been handling a legal dispute regarding a fish farm in the small province of Riau around 2 years ago.
In addition, Susno is also being accused of ordering deductions in West Java's election security fund before the money was issued to district police stations.
According to prosecutors, Susno, along with Maman Abdurrahman Pashya, a finance staff member, collected and used Rp 8.17 billion (700,000 euro) for personal expenses unrelated to the elections. Among their expenses were traveler's checks worth Rp 750 million (65,000 euro), which were used to buy Susno's Rp 5-billion (400,000 euro) house.
Susno is also accused of taking around Rp 50 million ($5,600) for himself while distributing Rp 800 million (75,000 euro) to officials within the West Java Police. Other uses included buying U.S. dollars and a vehicle.
Furthermore, Susno is being accused of buying land in Bogor, which is located just south of the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, stating he was a farmer in the purchase documents. Prosecutors are alleging that in total, Susno took $266,000 and Rp 1.26 billion (105,000 euro) for his personal use.
In addition to the 7-year prison term, prosecutors are recommending Susno return the mishandled Rp 8 billion. The trial is set to begin on February 24.
