Condoms from 'ATM' for users of prostitutes in Malang MALANG - The regent of Malang, Rendra Kresna, has made it easier for users of prostitutes in Malang to get their hands on a condom. Not to promote prostitution - efforts to close down several red light areas in the district fail over and over again because of resistance from the population - but to curb the spread of diseases like HIV/AIDS.

Officially, every 'guest' is obliged to use a condom. Unfortunately, usage among these guests is still low. To make sure that condoms are used more, they wil be available at the places where they are most needed. Owners of brothels - which officially don't exist in Indonesia - and even parking attendants should help guests by 'introducing' the protecting equipment.

Handing out condoms follows multiple bureaucratic attempts to close down red light areas in the district. But regulations issued by a government office somewhere doesn't seem to be enough to really close them down so they have now decided to do a little extra for the users and prostitutes. The condoms will be handed out by the Committee of AIDS Preventions KPA and the government Health Service in the region.

Rendra, who is also the head of the regional party office of Golkar in the district of Malang, says that sexual intercourse is an important way of contracting HIV/AIDS, but for sure not the only one. Dirty needles used by injecting drug users can also transfer the disease. Sexual contacts however, are by far the most likely way of contracting HIV/AIDS.

Hahaha, you're kidding? If there was only a tiny green light on the horizon but it only seems a dark light.....
At the frontpage of the KR newspaper: Indonesia climbs in the rankings of failed states. Anyone who has followed the news last days, will confirm this conclusion.
(Rector Forum reminded the government that Indonesia is starting to become a failed state. Indonesia was ranked 61 of the 170 countries included in the failed state index 2010.)
Today - after a week full of unrest and violent actions - the country climbs up the ladder of failed nations.
