JAKARTA - Video recordings of the clash between local residents and Ahmadis in Banten on Sunday show dozens of people stoning and beating two almost-nude corpses. The videos were played at a press conference held by representatives of dozens of NGOs. Ahmadiyah Indonesia spokesperson Zafrullah Ahmad Pontoh attended the press conference.
In one video, people are seen beating the corpses while shouting “Infidel, infidel!” and “Allahuakbar!” Others clapped their hands and threw stones at the remains. A police officer is seen trying to persuade the angry mob to stop, but he was ignored. Other footage shows hundreds of people arriving at a home suspected to be a place for Ahmadis to worship and threatening to attack.
People in the crowd had brought bamboo sticks and machetes with them and most of them wore blue ribbons on their chest. A shortened version of the footage - only one-minute long - was also made available online through YouTube. The video had 400 views after only three hours on the Internet.
