SURABAYA - A fire that raged the Novotel Surabaya building has caused heavy damage to mainly the roof of the building. The fire, that broke out during the early hours of today, caused some panic among guests staying in the hotel. Most of them were asleep when the fire started. All guests were soon evacuated from the hotel along Jalan Ngagel in the city.
According to the head of the local police, Aditya Puji Kurniawan, the cause of the fire has not been determined yet. It is very well possible that it was a short-circuit, but that has to be investigated further, he informed the press at the scene. The fire started at the southern side of the hotel and it took three fire trucks to eventually put out the fire.
