YOGYAKARTA - The Sardjito general hospital in Yogyakarta has announced that they have listed over 200 missing persons after the most recent heavy eruptions of the Mount Merapi volcano in Central Java. Most of the missing were reported only after the most heavy eruption until now, which occurred last Friday.
Most persons that have been recorded as missing originate from the villages of Bronggang, Plumbon, Gadingan, Guling and Ngacar. Those villages have most likely been hardest hit by this recent eruption. People still go to the hospital to report others missing and to make an effort to find missing family members and relatives.
Earlier today, several bodies were found at different locations. Joint rescue teams consisting of police and army personnel were able to conduct some searches. The bodies were all brought to the Sardjito hispotal for identification, for as far this is possible. Many of the casualties burned to dead in hot ash clouds, which makes identification more difficult.
