YOGYAKARTA - After the most recent eruption of the Mount Merapi volcano in Central Java, the city of Yogyakarta was hit by ash rains. Houses and streets in a large part of the city are now covered in a thin layer of grayish white ash which measures several millimeters.
The eruption started last night, but it took some time before ash started to come down in the city. The ash rains came as a surprise for many residents of Yogyakarta when they woke up earlier this morning. Many residents now wear face masks and drive slowly to avoid accidents on the slippery roads.
