JAKARTA - A Greenpeace vessel on Wednesday was barred by the Foreign Ministry from entering Indonesian waters, the organization said. The Greenpeace flagship Rainbow Warrior was slated to dock at the Tanjung Priok port in Jakarta but it was not allowed to sail on Indonesian waters.
Greenpeace Southeast Asia forest campaigner Bustar Maitar said that as of Wednesday no explanation has been given to the prohibition upon its vessel. The Indonesian Foreign Ministry had not answered Greenpeace's request to enter Indonesian territory.
The Greenpeace vessel is scheduled to engage in a two-and-a-half month voyage to Southeast Asia. The Rainbow Warrior first stopped in Thailand where the international agency has promoted green development to protect the environment.
In Indonesia, the vessel was intended to promote green development and push the government to implement a forest moratorium as established in the Norway-Indonesia $1 billion climate deal.
