JAKARTA - The National Police have forbidden terrorist suspect Abu Bakar Ba’asyir from performing Idul Fitri prayers outside the detention center because of limited security personnel. “We do not have sufficient personnel to secure a public Ba’asyir-led Idul Fitri prayer gathering."
I think it is okay not to [publicly] conduct the prayer once in a while,” police spokesman Sr. Comr. Marwoto Soeto said Monday. Baasyir is allowed to perform prayers inside the detention center, Marwoto said. However, the Idul Fitri prayer should be conducted with at least 40 congregation members, but there are not that many Muslim prisoners in that detention center, he said.
