JAKARTA - In observance of the Buddha’s Day of Enlightenment, or Waisak, the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights awarded on Friday remission to 727 inmates across the country. The ministry’s director of registration and statistics Rachmat Prio Sutardjo said 11 inmates would walk free as the remission resulted in completion of their jail terms.
Rachmat said 173 inmates had their prison terms cut by between 15 days, 473 inmates received a one-month remission, 41 inmates were awarded one and a half months of remission and 29 inmates were given two-month remission.
The government has always awarded remission to inmates on religious holidays and the Independence Day. The prison term reduction is given to inmates due to their good behavior.
