JAKARTA - The anti terror unit of the Indonesian national police, Densus 88, has arrested a number of suspected terrorists yesterday and earlier today. This happened in a number of separate raids in the last 24 hours. The raids were held in Jakarta and Bekasi, directly east of the Indonesian capital.
Yesterday, seven suspected terrorists were arrested Pejaten in South Jakarta. They have been visited by the radical Islamic Abu Bakar Bashir, a person that runs a radical Islamic boarding school in Ngruki near Solo and has also been related to terrorism several times in the past.
Bashir has been convicted only once but even this punishment was eventually turned over so he could walk out of jail. He is still related to several groups that produce terrorists that have been killed by firefights between Densus 88 and those movements. The now dead Noordin M. Top and Dulmatin were close friends from Bashir for example.
Earlier today another five suspected terrorists were arrested in Bekasi, east of Jakarta. Four people were arrested here, and one more was apprehended in Menteng, an elite residential area in downtown Jakarta. All twelve have been brought to the headquarters of the anti-terrorism unit for further investigation and questioning.
