LAMPUNG - Dozens of teachers in the district of Natar in Lampung province have demonstrated against so-called pungli ('pungutan liar' or paying kickbacks) earlier today. The teachers demanded the resignation of servants of the Educational Board of South Lampung because of these illegal activities.
The demonstration was held in front of the local office of the Educational Board in the area. The teachers and several school heads stated that they wanted to have nothing to do with pungli that is asked for by the civil servants of the board.
The civil servants often threatened with transfer of teachers if they did not met the demand of extra money. They have already transferred one school head without a proper reason. Millions of Rupiah's should have been paid for gaining certificates and higher wage scale.
