JAKARTA - A court in Indonesia has decided not to sentence a boy after he stung a class-mate with a bee. The now nine year old David Yusuf could be sentenced to three years in prison for severe abuse, but the judges decided to let him walk. The case dragged on for almost a year.
The boy had found and captured a bee last March. He put it on the cheek of a girl. She was stung by the animal and her parents filed a report with the local police. According to the judge, the case should never have been brought to court in the first place, since it was merely "child's play".
The judicial system in Indonesia is known for it's corruption and seemingly random punishments. Political and Economic Risk Consultancy (PERC), based in Hong Kong, states that the judicial system in Indonesia is the worst among twelve other Southeast Asian countries.
