MANADO - Incessant rain has caused floods in two remote villages in eastern Indonesia leaving eight people dead and 13 others missing. Health official Rustam Pakaya says flooding early Friday in Sulawesi province washed away 16 houses and damaged dozens of others.
Every year flooding and landslides kill scores of people during the monsoon season in Indonesia, a tropical archipelago with a population of 235 million. On Wednesday rain-triggered landslides killed five people and left one missing on Indonesia's main Java island.
