BANJARBARU - An old McDonnell Douglas plane from airline Wings Air has finally broken down. This happened at the Syamsuddin Noor airport near the city of Banjarbaru in South Kalimantan. The plane arrived from Surabaya at 18:15 when it skidded over the runway and broke down right away. The 160 passengers and crew were all safe but were panicked by the incident.
The plane with flight number LNI316 was able to touch down normally. Directly after the landing the plane skidded and came to a halt sooner than expected. One of the back tires of the landing gear probably burst, which caused hydraulic problems with the plane. One of the passengers needed extra oxygen because of the incident. All passengers were evacuated from the plane without injuries.
The plane was parked on the landing strip for half an hour when it was forced to be moved to the apron, using special vehicles. One Merpati flight could not land and was forced to circle over the airport for 20 minutes. As usual, Wings Air has not given any details about the incident and refuses to do so as well. Wings Air is a 100-percent daughter of Lion Air, but often uses heavily outdated planes to fly across Indonesia.
