LIPPO CIKARANG - Congratulations! Indonesia did not win again. They did not loose either, but are just playing a small role in this case. Most likely that is the best solution as well. Huh? What? Not winning is still okay? For sure, since it is all about the small representation of Indonesians in the list of 500 most prominent Muslems in the world.
That list, put together by The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre in Jordan for the first time this year, is created to show the world which Muslems are ought to be most prominent. Indonesians are largely missing from that list and you might think that it's nothing special. But because some people think they are really good in Islam, they might just be prominent people altogether.
It turned out to be a big failure. Where Indonesia represents some one sixth of all Muslems in the world with 200 million of them living in the country - just 15 out of the 500 are Indonesian. That is a meager three percent. The first reactions on several Indonesian websites were praising, but making this simple calculation did not emerge in their brains, because Alhamdulilah (3x) Indonesia had produced an astonishing 15 representatives for the list.
It was a gift from Allah, but Allah was not that satisfied with Indonesians as it seemed, because then he would have put more of them in the list. Was it Allah who made the list or just a bunch of desert rats that played Allah for a while and created the list, mainly looking to how 'good' these Muslems are? In the eyes of the average Arabic person the Indonesian Muslem is just so-so, obviously.
They diverge from the real Islam, beliefs in holy mountains, rivers and seas, black magic, hardly visits a mosque and is not able to spread the one true religion among the small portion of non-Muslems in the country. That is not how Islam should be, but exactly about how Indonesia should be. Because of this, I congratulate Indonesia with just having a small representation in the list. It's very own beautiful culture and related adat (cultural rules) which are not just put aside because a religious person with small beard tells them how it should be.
Above all you should ask yourself as a normal thinking person if you want to be in a list with complete idiots and strange-thinking people. The number one in the list, the king of Saudi Arabia, forces people of other religions to leave behind their holy books (you can not bring a Bible into the country). The number two, the Ayatollah of Iran doesn't get much further than anti-Western rhetoric, stating that anyone who is not a Muslim is just trash.
Some prominent Muslem figures are obviously missing from the list. Osama bin Laden, Al-Zawahiri, almarhum ('deceased') Noordin M. Top amongst other obvious terrorists were scrapped from the list to prevent an outrage. Terrorists that hide behind terms like king or admiral do emerge in the list however. If I was Achmad Hasyim Muzadi (chairman of the Nadhlatul Ulama) or Din Syamsuddin (chairman of the Muhammadiyah), I would ask to have my name removed from that list.
