JAKARTA - The national police chief in Indonesia, Bambang Hendarso Danuri, said that investigators had solid evidence in the bribery and extortion case involving two officials of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). He said there was evidence that businessman Anggoro Widjojo was implicated in the case as well.
Bambang told members of the Commission III of the House of Representatives that investigators at the national police had evidence that money was transferred by the now suspended deputy chiefs of the KPK Chandra M. Hamzah and Bibit Samad Rianto. Anggoro is most likely involved as well, but more evidence is being gathered on him.
"We will be responsible for what we have done; there was no fabrication at all. We make sure we received no money in this case," Bambang told the hearing which lasted until midnight. The case started rolling after the questioning of former KPK boss Antasari Azhar after he was arrested in relation to a murder case earlier this year.
The bribery and extortion was related to KPK investigation into a bribery case involving Anggoro’s telecommunication provider PT Masaro Radiokom. Bambang said a top official at the Forestry Ministry also received Rp 17.2 billion (1.2 million euro) from Anggoro. A KPK leader who has emotional ties with MK sought an entry ban imposed on Anggoro to prevent an investigation into the case.
The police’s probe also found, among other things, a transfer of a total of Rp 6 billion (422,000 euro) to five KPK leaders from Anggoro through middleman Ary Muladi, who later on withdrew his testimony.
