MEDAN - A huge flood has submerged hundreds of houses and public facilities in some parts of Medan, North Sumatra, as of Thursday afternoon. Students of the elementary school in Sei Mati village were forced to leave the school while some employees did not go to work.
Many residents, especially those living around Deli village, were unable to rescue their belongings as the flood hit the area quickly at 3 a.m., when most residents were still asleep. As of Thursday afternoon, the floodwater reached as high as 2 meters.
Fuad, one of the residents, said the residents panicked because the water rose and quickly reached 2 meters. The Medan office of the Geophysics and Meteorology Agency has warned all residents about possible strong winds and rain between November and December across the province.
