MANOKWARI - An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 on the Richter Scale struck just 13 kilometers southeast of the city of Manokwari in Papua. According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency BMKG the quake took place at 20:15 local time (GMT+9). The earthquake was measured at a depth of 23 kilometers, but was not strong enough to cause a tsunami.
Some residents were panicked by the nearby quake, but there are no reports of damage or injuries yet. Power is out in big parts of the area however. Since it is night, it might very well be possible that further reports only come in tomorrow morning at first daylight.
