JAKARTA - Garuda Indonesia has announced that it will resume flights between Jakarta and Amsterdam as of June 1, 2010. A daily flight between the destinations will be made with an Airbus A330-200 plane, which makes a short stop in Dubai.
The flight will leave from Schiphol airport at 10:00 local time. Upon arrival in Dubai at 18:30 a stopover of 75 minutes will be made before the flight to Jakarta is continued. Scheduled landing in Jakarta is at 07:10 local time. The Airbus planes belonging to Garuda are able to seat 220 passengers; 36 in business class and 186 in economy class.
Late 2004 the route to Amsterdam was scrapped by Garuda because of financial restraints. The ban for Indonesian airlines to fly to countries within the European Union also blocked Garuda from returning to Amsterdam any time soon. Now the ban has been lifted partially, Garuda is allowed to fly to Europe once again.
Garuda Indonesia told that the relations between the Netherlands and Indonesia had improved in the last few years. This also meant an increase of the number of passengers between Europe and the Asian archipelago. Earlier, the general director of KLM, Peter Hartman, told that they would work together with Garuda Indonesia for a flight to Denpasar (Bali).
