PADANG - The death toll of the 7.6 magnitude earthquake that shook West Sumatra on September 30 has reached 1,115 according to local and regional authorities in the region. The disaster management team in the region said that most people had been killed in the Padang Pariaman district, where 675 bodies were recovered. 313 bodies were found in the provincial capital of Padang.
However several hundred people are still officially missing and thousands are still feared trapped under collapsed buildings in the city, the regional government is confident that they can clean up the rubble and start the rebuilding process later this month already.
