PADANG - The cities of Padang and Pariaman have power again, for the first time since the September 30 earthquake struck the area of West Sumatra. During the quake, Padang was completely cut off from any power, but in the days after regular blackouts occurred while the system was under maintenance.
"When the earthquake hit, electricity in Padang was cut off, but now all businesses and households in the city can have power again." said Murtaqi Syamsudin, regional head of the state-owned power company PLN. Two villages in the district of Malalak, near the town of Pariaman, do not have power yet because they were completely isolated after quake-triggered landslides.
