JAKARTA - For days members of the well-known masked white-robed Islamists of Front Pembela Islam ('Islamic Defenders Front') held demonstrations against a comedy film which is currently being produced because one of it's actors - Japanese porn star Maria 'Miyabi' Ozawa - has a leading roll, allthough not naked at all.
As might be known, members of the FPI normally don't care less what the Indonesian constitution or laws tells them, because they feel themselves higher than the law and sometimes even higher than Allah, seen their absurd behavior. "We reject Miyabi's visit! She must not be allowed into Indonesia. If she comes here, we are ready to die fighting to cancel her visit,", said Umar Alatas, head of the FPI in West Jakarta.
With her distinctive looks, and a mix of genes from her Japanese mother and French-Canadian father, Miyabi rose to global stardom after first appearing in the flesh in 2005. One of the white-robed demonstrators, Fajar, even admitted that he had seen Miyabi playing in a porn movie. A law adopted late 2008 forbids any 'pornographic' materials inside Indonesia. A naked Miyabi would certainly qualify as such. He downplayed his actions by saying that he watched it by accident and the image was blurred.
The producer of 'Menculik Miyabi' ('Kidnapping Miyabi') said he appreciated the wishes of the protesters, but he could not accommodate them since the contract with the Japanese counterparts had already be signed. "This film has to be made because we have signed a contract with the Japanese side. We would be embarrassed if we have to cancel it." The protests against the movie are still peaceful, but when the FPI. doesn't get what it demands, that tends to change.
