DENPASAR - A resident of Kedonganan, in the South Kuta area of Badung on Bali has died as a result of being infected with rabies. However the person was treated in the Sanglah general hospital, Wayan Masri, 57, eventually could not overcome the infection which he got when bitten by an infected wild dog.
A spokesperson of the hospital said that Wayan indeed was infected with rabies. A child of the victim, Wayan Suandi, said that the victim was bitten by a dog some six months ago. However the bite was seen as a small wound, the victim still received an anti-rabies vaccine as a precaution.
The village head of Kedonganan, Nyoman Mudiarta, said that there are currently 50 people that have been bitten by wild dogs in his area. They have all reported themselves at the hospital to receive medication. Some 400 out of the 1.000 wild dogs in the area have been put down. An outbreak of rabies on the resort island of Bali has killed 12 people since November 2008.
