PADANG - Some 200 guests of the Ambacang Hotel in the city of Padang have not been evacuated yet from the building that collapsed during the 7.6 magnitude quake that his the area last afternoon at 17:15 local time. Head of the Disaster Management Team, Dedi Hanidal, said that there were some 200 people that had been trapped, but could not be freed because there is no proper equipment.
The hotel building has collapsed completely during the quake and victims are now searched by hand. It is feared that most people have died. Some 32 bodies were pulled out of the rubble until 03:30 local time. They were brought to two separate hospital morgues in the city. The head of the team said that he expected many thousands of people to be trapped in many collapsed buildings in the city. With chances of survival being slim, all effort is done to find survivors as soon as possible.
