JAKARTA - The regional office of the state power company PLN in the areas of Jakarta and Tangerang have announced that they will introduce scheduled outages in large parts of the region to avoid rolling and unplanned blackouts after a substation was damaged in a fire yesterday. Generators will be put into place for important facilities like hospitals, health centers and police offices. Even some traffic lights will be powered by generators to keep the traffic flowing.
The website of PLN told that three four-hour scheduled blackouts were to be introduced every day from today to next Tuesday. The blackouts will last from 08:00 to 12:00, 13:00 to 17:00 and 18:00 to 22:00 local time. Directly after the substation was damaged, sudden blackouts occurred in Gambir, Kuningan, Mampang, Pulomas, Cawang, Cililitan and several areas in West Jakarta and Tangerang. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
