MAKASSAR - The regional government of Makassar in South Sulawesi has ordered it's civil servants not to download pornography at government offices. With increasing ease, porn is accessible via internet, something that Indonesians have found out as well. It is no secret that Indonesians do also use the internet to find what they are looking for.
"I warn all civil officers in Makassar to not access porn sites, either still or motion pictures because it will affect your psychological state," is what the deputy mayor Makassar said. Of course that is what porn does, keeping you off your work. What he meant to say is that downloading and viewing porn is illegal in Indonesia because a law has been passed last year. He also knows - just like the lawmakers in the country - that enforcing such a hideous law is almost impossible.
Calling upon his people to stop viewing porn at government computers however must indicate that some people spend their working hours looking for sexually oriented content instead of actually working. Unfortunately such a call only stimulates other people to think that civil servants do nothing all day long and will give others the idea to also have a look at the officially forbidden - for people in Indonesia that is - part of internet.
