LIPPO CIKARANG - After Antasari Azhar was arrested for his supposed involvement in a murder case earlier this year, the Indonesian corruption watchdog KPK does not have a leader anymore. A.A., as he is named popularly, has been put on non-active shortly after his arrest. Since he was the head of the corruption watchdog, there was no way that he would be able to return to his post, even if he was to be freed later on.
This means a new leader has to be found. After a few months of looking around, the five members of a government-appointed team and the remaining leaders of the Corruption Eradication Commission decided that they were looking for only experienced candidates who where able to start with their new job immediately and without hesitations.
Names that have been flying around as possible candidates for the highest position in the government body are former head of police Sutanto, former Secretary of State Marsilam Simandjuntak and former Chief of Justice Benjamin Mangkudilaga.
