JAKARTA - The biggest baby ever born in Indonesia draws crowds to the general hospital in Kisaran in North Sumatra. The baby - named Akbar, which means 'great' in Arabic - was born with a weight of 8.7 kilograms. Akbar Risuddin was born from a diabetic mother during a cesarean delivery which was quite hard to round off because of high unusual weight and size.
"I'm very happy that my baby and his mother are in good health," said father Muhammad Hasanuddin. "I hope I can afford to feed the baby enough, because he needs more milk than other babies." People gathered at the hospital to take a look at the boy, which already measures 62 centimeters. He was born last Monday already.
According to a doctor a the hospital, the baby was able to grow to this size before being born because he had access to a much higher dosage of glucose. Large babies are not uncommon for mothers that have diabetes. Two earlier babies delivered by the same mother weighed in at 5.3 and 4.5 kilograms at birth. The former record holder was a 6.7 kilogram baby born in Jakarta in 2007. The heaviest baby in the world however was born in Canada in 1879 and weighed some 10.4 kilograms.
