JAKARTA - A spokesperson of the national police said Saturday that at least 184 people have been killed in homecoming traffic rush in the six days prior to the Idul Fitri holiday. National Police spokesman Maj. Gen. Nanan Sukarna told a press conference in Jakarta that at least 466 traffic accidents have occurred less than a week before the holiday.
Nanan said that the police have been doing their best to help reduce traffic accidents during the rush, but were expecting homebound travelers to take more care on their journey home. Last year, 360 people were killed in traffic accidents in the three days following Idul Fitri, when people traveled back to the places they live during the rest of the year.
