JAKARTA - The Social Affairs Agency in Jakarta has made plans to hunt down and arrest the people behind the begging syndicates in the city. Budiharjo, head of the agency, has said that there is a list of 33 names of people that are leading so-called begging syndicates in the capital city. Only 11 of these people are from Jakarta, while the others came from other places.
He told that the agency was gathering more information by undercover operations which should eventually lead to the arrest of the leaders. "We don’t know what the modus operandi is, because the people who drop off the beggars are just the drivers," Budiharjo said. The beggars are frequently dropped near Taman Mini Indonesia and Jalan Pramuka in East Jakarta, Pondok Indah in South Jakarta and Slipi and Tomang in West Jakarta.
