JAKARTA - The Department of Public Works (PU) has said that ten days before the first day of Idul Fitri, some 98 percent of the construction and renovation works on roads is finished. It only gave information about the roads that are appointed as official mudik routes, with mudik being the 27-million odd homecoming travels to celebrate the end of the Ramadan month of fasting.
The last two percent will be finished in another two days time according to the director of the Department of Public Works in Jakarta. According to Hermanto Dardak, all new bridges, by-pass routes and highways were completely finished. Some other points were still being finished off in the last few days. He said that finishing works on the sides of the roads were not completely finished yet at certain points however.
In total some 10,000 kilometers of main road and 4,000 kilometers of secondary road on the islands of Java, Sumatra, Bali, Nusa Tenggara and South Sulawesi will have to process some 16 million users in just a week time. The budget of the Department of Public Works for 2009 is 17 trillion Rupiah (1,2 billion euro) with 4,2 trillion Rupiah (300 million euro) used especially for the mudik renovations.
Pictures of roads that are not ready to be used for the mudik period can be placed in the reactions of course.
