JAKARTA - The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Jero Wacik, has decided to resign from his current position in the cabinet to become a legislator. He will be representing the Democratic Party of President Yudhoyono in the House of Representatives. "I will submit my resignation letter to the President Tuesday afternoon. If the President agrees, I will be able to officially resign by Oct. 1," he said.
A law - signed last year - on General Elections states that new legislators can not have another position in state institutions and are required to resign from their posts at least three weeks before they are installed as legislators. "Both minister and legislator are equal. It needs dedication," he said. "It is also up to the President to appoint anyone as his minister."
The Minister of Administrative Reform, Taufik Effendi, and Minister of Maritime and Fishery Affairs, Freddy Numberi, are other members of the cabinet that will be seated in the House of Representatives under the Democratic Party of President Yudhoyono.
