JAKARTA - The traffic police in the Greater Jakarta area has fined some 90 illegal street racers at several places in Jakarta early this morning. The police held raids on several locations where street races normally occur. Owners of 18 driver licenses and 72 STNK (vehicle registration cards) were handed out fines.
The police organized a force of almost 200 personnel which used 28 cars, 40 motorcycles and five trucks to hold the raid. The operation was held to improve safety in the areas. The police left from the national headquarters along Jalan Gatot Subroto around one in the morning local time (GMT+7) and was busy catching illegal street racers until just after sun dawn.
The police has called on residents to inform them about illegal street races at any time by calling a police office nearby or the Traffic Management Center at 021-5276001 or by SMS to 1717.
