SURABAYA - The Minister of Transport has finally seen the light. He stated earlier today that the time needed to travel between Surabaya and Banyuwangi could be shortened from six hours, the current time a train needs, to only three hours. He has come up with a very inventive way to get this done properly:
"If the train has a speed of 100 kilometers per hour, the train will only need three hours to travel between Surabaya and Banyuwangi. In this way, the trip will be twice as fast," said Jusfan Djamal.
His department has asked PT Kereta Api to look into the possibilities to speed up trains on this route. Big parts of the route are straight, so speeding up trains here should be an option. A double track between the cities would make the plans even more possible.
Who wants to wake up the Minister of Transportation? Ever since the first railways were constructed in - then - the Netherlands Indies it was the plan to create a double track across the entire island of Java because then it would be possible to travel great distances with less time than using a horsecart. Those were plans of almost a century ago. Where did he find that history book so fast?
