LIPPO CIKARANG - PT. Kereta Api will put in service three extra trains to absorb the large number of passengers during mudik this year. The three extra trains will total a number of 30 wagons. The trains will be added to the normal train schedule on the island of Java and will all be ekonomi class trains.
General director 'driving trains', Tanjung Indrawan, told that the added wagons will be put into service between H-7 and H+7. In normal language this means that there will be extra trains starting seven days before the first day of Lebaran until seven days after the first day of Lebaran. The three trains will be operated every day during that period.
Tunjung also told that the bisnis and eksekutif class trains would be optimized, but that there will be no extra wagons. Most likely they simply don't have extra wagons, so options are just a few. "It can not be the case that passengers in those classes can not be transported." Transporting people in those classes in horrible conditions between mice and cockroaches however is not a problem.
Prices of train tickets are much higher than normally this year as well. The only period of the year where PT. Kereta Api is able to collect money without limits is Lebaran, when millions of people are forced to go home and have to pay ridiculous prices for crappy trains. On top of this comes the fact that tickets for this mudik are about ten percent higher than last years. Don't expect the trains to be improved ten percent however.
